Magic Item House Rules

The following are house rules for magic items from the Core Rulebook. As stated before, magic items from outside the Core Rulebook require DM approval; they may not use alternate body slots.

In the case of Items which may come in the form of different body slots, the body slot is listed in parentheses as follows: (A): suits of armor, (Be): belts and girdles, (Bo): robes and vestments, (Ch): mantles, shirts, and vestments, (E): eyes, glasses, and goggles, (F): boots, shoes, and slippers, (Ha): gauntlets and gloves, (Hd): circlets, crowns, hats, helms, and masks, (Hb): headbands and phylacteries, (N): amulets, brooches, medallions, necklaces, periapts, and scarabs, (Ri): rings, (Shi): shields, (Sho): capes and cloaks, (W): bracelets and bracers.

Amulet of Mighty Fists (Ha, F, N)

This item also comes in the form of gloves and boots. When rolled as treasure, the item type is determined randomly. When crafted the creator may choose the type of item (assuming he fulfills the prerequisite feats as follows). If the creator possesses both Craft Magic Arms and Armor and Craft Wondrous Item, he may add special abilities to an item with the mighty fists property as if adding special properties to a weapon. As with a weapon an item with the mighty fists property cannot have an effective bonus (enhancement plus special ability bonus equivalents, including those from character abilities and spells) higher than +10. Items with the mighty fists property and a special ability must also have at least a +1 enhancement bonus.

An item with the mighty fists property has a market value and construction cost equal to twice the value enhancing of a single weapon (e.g. 4,000 gp for +1, 16,000 gp for +2, etc.).

Amulet of Natural Armor (Bo, Ch, Ri, N)

This item also comes in the form of vestments, a vest, and a ring. When rolled as treasure, the item type is determined randomly. When crafted the creator may choose the type of item (assuming he fulfills the prerequisite feat). For the ring version, replace Craft Wondrous Item with Forge Ring as a prerequisite.

Belt of Giant Strength (Be, Ha, W)

This item also comes in the form of gauntlets and bracers. When rolled as treasure, the item type is determined randomly. When crafted the creator may choose the type of item.

Belt of Incredible Dexterity (Be, F, Ha)

This item also comes in the form of boots and gloves. When rolled as treasure, the item type is determined randomly. When crafted the creator may choose the type of item.

Belt of Mighty Constitution (Be, Ch, N)

This item also comes in the form of an amulet or a vest. When rolled as treasure, the item type is determined randomly. When crafted the creator may choose the type of item.

Bracers of Armor (Bo, W)

This item also comes in the form of a robe. When rolled as treasure, the item type is determined randomly. If the creator possesses both Craft Magic Arms and Armor and Craft Wondrous Item, he may add special abilities to an item with the armor property as if adding special properties to a suit of armor. As with a suit of armor an item with the armor property cannot have an effective bonus (enhancement plus special ability bonus equivalents, including those from character abilities and spells) higher than +10. Items with the armor property and a special ability must also have at least a +1 enhancement bonus. (Items with the armor property may still have a total armor bonus of up to +8, as normal, as long as the effective bonus is not higher than +10.)

Circlet of Persuasion

The bonus to Charisma-based checks does not apply to Use Magic Device.

Cloak of Resistance (Ch, Ri, Sho)

This item also comes in the form of vests and rings. When rolled as treasure, the item type is determined randomly. When crafted the creator may choose the type of item (assuming he fulfills the prerequisite feat). For the ring version, replace Craft Wondrous Item with Forge Ring as a prerequisite.

Headband of Alluring Charisma (Hb, Sho)

This item also comes in the form of a cloak. When rolled as treasure, the item type is determined randomly. When crafted the creator may choose the type of item.

Headband of Inspired Wisdom (Hb, Hd)

This item also comes in the form of a circlet. When rolled as treasure, the item type is determined randomly. When crafted the creator may choose the type of item.

Headband of Vast Intelligence (E, Hb)
